Project Information

I built three identical tool boxes to replace the cheap store bought versions that I had for a couple of years. I had some cheap Craftsmen toolboxes that cost around $100 each. At that price, I should have known they wouldn't last. After most of the drawers wouldn't open any more, I decided just to build me some. I designed them the height of my table saw and rounded all four of the top edges so they could be used as a out-feed or support table. I made different size drawers but tried to keep them as small as possible. If they are too big I have a tendency to overload them. The top drawers I cut a groove and divided the drawer into four sections for small items.

The materials used was MDF on the top and drawers. I used a maple plywood on the sides to keep the weight down. I used MDF because of it's cost, but I kind of like the look after it is lacquered.

I stole the wheels off the old boxes and just for fun took the Craftsman name off a couple and put them on the drawer.

Speaking of tool boxes, here is a toolbox nightstand that I built in 2003. At the top right corner in the black box I put CraftsKids. I was a piece that went with my car bed

Great looking chest! I've always wanted to say that in a post. Please don't tell me that your pliers are always neatly arranged like that. ; )

HOLD ON A MINUTE!! First picture, right side: you can't just sneak in the worlds largest router jig with out tellin' the story! Now fess up - is that really an ten foot router trammel? What the heck did you make with that?

Wait - I just looked at all your projects, first guess: conference table; second guess: entertainment center.
Nice projects!

Topapilot, I used that for very large arches on things like my castle slide or cinderella's coach.

Chris, I like the tools chests. Making them the same as the table saw is a great idea. I married a man that can't have enough tools and this would be a great way to store them and use the chest in our small work area.
