Project Information

well here is the second batch of lures. one out of yellowheart, one out of paduak, and one out of lacewood. they are all finished with about 4 coats of shellac except for the lacewood one which was dyed with a general finished medium brown die to pop it and give it the appearance of scales and then shellacked. hope everyone likes them

I'm gonna have too! next time i go fishing anywhere where you can catch a fish that is big enough to swallow one of these little guys I'm gonna do it. should catch something big. if i was a fish and i was the shimmering and the holographic effect of the tiger maple I'd bite into it. they won't know what hit 'em :)

Beautiful Job, Denis!!

I vaguely remember reading someplace that water will cause shellac to turn white- like if you set a wet glass on a shellacked table top. Do you think this will be a problem with lures?

i doubt it. i have heard that too and the only reason i used shellac over poly is because it doesn't have the smell of poly which might alert the fishes too it and because of the fast dry time. i will have to test it out though. but i have used water on shellac before and haven't got much problems.

Nice lures Dennis…for a spin caster. LOL. I have seen these in a variety of catalogs and have thought about them as a fun project but I have been purely a fly fisherman for the past 15 years and think I would anger the river gods if I tried to make one of these. Hey if they don't catch fish, they are pretty and will look good in a shadow box!

We give up all work and went fishing. Fishing is too to spend excellent time…. LOL…. The summer came, the nature smells sweet (triumphs). Life goes on. We will weld on fish soup (ear), we will drink on a cup and we will amicably sing….....
