Project Information

I built ed stiles finger joint jig and it works just great!
BUT!!!
I didn't want to buy special saw blades just to get the right finger widths 1/4", then to get another size on and on so.
I screwed drawer slides right up next to the table saw sled runners and then screwed the drawer slide to my router table.
Problem solved, now when I want to change widths just change router blades and they're perfect every time.
Another thing this does is not tie up the table saw.

But now you say the router table is tied up.
My next project will solve that.
I'm going to make my router top a flip up top using door hings the ones with removable pins.
This way I pull out the pin and can switch back and forth with my router top to the finger joint top in seconds.
I hope you can use these ideas, they have been working fine for me.
Here's my flip up router table.
It also has a wheel to move the router up and down.
I do all my routing sitting down [bad back]so now I can move the blade without having to get up.
Building note, I added an extra bracket to the all thread mount, the sliding bracket was wanting to lift up while routing this solved that problem for me.

Sorry my router table isn't pretty but just using the stock at hand this is what I came up with.

The comment,

Was meant for the finger joint jig. Sorry
You can see it in the very first picture.

And thanks NormG

Very nice. Lots of solutions in one simple idea! Now where can I find plans for this?

Do a search for- ed stiles finger joint jig -
He has free plans for the finger joint jig.

Here's another one that looks interesting, I would have tried this one first if I had found it in time.
He's got it posted on this site some where.

I still would have adapted it for the router.

I used drawer slides for my lift.
Here's where I got my ideas for it.
He built his using brackets to hold the slides, I put my drawer slides in a box.

Where most use a wrench on the nut at the top of the all thread I bolted a wheel under the table for moving the router up and down.
Now I can do both.

The two wheels you see under the table top are for locking the fence.
I only had 10" of t track at the time of this build so put it on the bottom of the fence and added the t bolt though the table to the wheels.
Now I don't have to reach behind the table to loosen the fence.

This is one of those deals where I should go back and build another one now that I've got it kinda figured out but it works fine so just use it till it doesn't do what I need.
