Pen Turners' Swap #2 is Underway!

Well, a little bit of a delay on my end getting this one started due to some personal matters but we are on the road again now! The box is headed to freedom75 in NC now and he should get it within a few days.

Here's a map of our travels this time around:

Our total traders grew to 13 this time, from 9 total in Round 1. We had a few from Round 1 step out and quite a few come into the trade.

If anyone has questions let me know, but it's pretty simple and there are some papers in the box that explain the basics.

I'm not attaching pics of what I'm sending out - I'll let freedom75 fill everyone in from his end! Surprise value… However you can see 90% of what's in the box by viewing the last post from Round 1.

Happy trading!

Tim

I am unable to be part of pen trade #2 due to working on a really big project that is taking up a lot of my time but look forward to seeing the travels of this round. Hopefully will be finished up on this project by the end of June and back in my own workshop on a full time basis. Until then hope everyone has fun with this.

Ok guys. I recieved the Box . I must say there is some very nice stuff here. I removed a pen made by tim, the craftmanship is very nice on this pen. I cut a 70 year old Carolina Dogwood down last weekend that was dieing. It made some very pretty wood blanks . A deep carmel color with streaks of Pink in it. I made a couple of pen blanks out of that and put them in the box. I have also placed a Large piece of corian in there for turning pens. It should make 2 or 3 blanks for wallstreet style pens. I hope to get the box out this weekend and back on its way to the next person. I will be adding a pen kit or 2 and a couple of pens in there as well . Would just like to say thanks guys for including me in the group and making me feel welcome :)

It's like Christmas in July...

Ho, Ho, Ho Lumberjocks! The presents keep circulating among us pen turners and the box is currently in the hands of ShannonRogers in beautiful Maryland. Shannon dropped me a PM when he received the box and I can tell he's excited to dig into it. :)

Here's our updated map…

Good news for Karson, the box doesn't have far to travel when in leaves Shannon's hands!

Big Box o' Blanks

Hey Everyone,

The pen trade box is moving right along! As many of us suspected, Karson loaded the box as much as he could - thanks again, Karson! The box is on it's way to Frank in NY now, ain't he a lucky guy to get this right after Karson???

Here's the latest map…

Hope everyone is having fun with this, I know I am!

TedM and I exchanged a few emails and, for now, he's going to step out of the trade rotation. We hate to see him go but we know from the first round of the trade that time/costs to Canada can be a burden - especially as the box gets heavier. Ted - maybe you can spur a Canadian version of the swap? I'll be glad to help anyway I can.

Thanks again everyone!

TedM Sorry for the need to drop out. I talked to the postoffice here about the postage to Canada, and he said it wasn't much more than normal.

But, he was not sure of the Canadian rates to ship it back to the States. Sorry you had to drop out. Send me your address and phone number by regular e-mail and I send a few blanks to you from my end.

Chasing the end of summer, more time to turn pens?

Hey LJ's,

ScottB sends word to us pen traders that he has the box in his possession! Sounds like he's enjoying what he has to choose from and interested to see the stock changing as it moves along - Scott commented that only a couple items from Trade #1 are still in the box now.

Down here (Atlanta) most of the kids are back in school, I thought that was the case for most of the kids in the US but I overheard a conversation where some schools are not going back until after Labor Day! Wow, I remember that from when I was a kid but thought they quit those long summers years ago.

I guess with school back in some people may have more time in the shop and others may have less time in the shop. I know here in Atlanta the biggest thing we notice when school's back in is the increase in traffic on the roads!

A hop, skip and a jump...

Hi Everyone,

A quick and easy trip for the pen box this time. It made the short jump over to Ryno101's in no time at all. He sounds extremely excited to dig into this! Funny how all of us (supposed) grown folks get so childish over a box full of sticks. Remember Lincoln Logs??? Those were awesome…

Annny-how… the box is in great hands now and I know from the past posts that he'll enjoy what awaits him when he opens this up. I'm actually starting to get some stuff prepped for Round 3 already, I have a stack of super Brazilian Cherry that I'll be dropping in the box on the next trip!

Here's the latest map:

RIKKOR - You're next on the list! TedM regretfully stepped out to try and avoid a long delay getting to and from Canada, we appreciate his sacrifice. Next round we'll see if we can get a few more of our Northern Neighbors to join us so we can send it around in Canada for a while then drop it back into the states. Are you Canadian turners listening??? Let us know if you'd like to be in Round 3 - we're getting on the tail end of Round 2 soon!

Great glad to see it's on the move again.

I posted on the #6 blog that it might be beneficial to write on the blank what the wood species is or use some masking tape and write on the tape . That way the person receiving the pen blank would know what it was.

Marvelous Minnesota!

I received a note from Rikkor that he has the pen box, he tells me it is VERY impressive. Sounds like it gets better at every stop! He'll post us some pics soon and then it's off to the West Coast for 2 stops in CA (that's California for all you pen turners thinking about glue…) and then we'll wrap Round 2. bigguy is next on the list - I hope he's ready for the awesomeness that's coming his way. At least Rikkor knew partially what to expect since he was involved in the first trade, bigguy is new to this, so he may just pass out when he opens the box - consider yourself warned…

I've already received inquiries for Round 3 so it looks like that will definitely happen. If you're interested go ahead and PM me and I'll start to keep a list of Jocks to contact. Probably about a month out on starting the next one.

Here's our latest map…

I received the box yesterday, and about all I could say was WOW! I laid out all the blanks on the dining room table, like this:

What a selection. I took one of just about each of Karson's donations, and maybe one other. I also grabbed one of Ryno101's pens. It is really a nice pen, thanks Ryan.

I decided on two pens to put in, an acrylic Sierra, and a black walnut Bullet pen.

I have not selected what blanks I will be contributing, but I'll certainly add to the stock. Thanks to all participants for making this another fun adventure. As last time, this has been a rewarding experience and I'd be delighted to join the next one.

On the way... to Cala-for-nye-aye...

First, let me apologize for the corny titles on these posts as well as the maps… those responsible have just been sacked. ;-)

Rikkor is done with the box o' blanks and has put them in the mail on their journey to California and bigguy's shop. Only a couple more stops and we'll be all wrapped up on Round 2! Thanks again everyone - I hope you've all enjoyed this!

And… as always… the much anticipated map!

The box made it to CA!

WHEW! For those following the series you know there was some concern the box was lost. Well I received a PM from Bigguy (Ron) that the box was at his house on Friday. Figures it would show up just as I voice my concern - well, whatever it takes!

Ron said he'll get it moving along to rb765 shortly. They're not too far from each other so it shouldn't take too long to make the jump.

That's the last stop before coming back to me in Atlanta so… we're taking names now for Round 3 of the pen trade. If you want in please send me a PM so I can add you to the list.

Map's still the same for now, I'll update once it gets to the next stop.

Last stop on the tour!

The box made it to rb765 today! Unfortuanately Ron (bigguy) had to ship it off a little quicker than expected - his job has kept him running the last few weeks. He did manage to get a bullet pen and add a few blanks to the box before sending it along.

The map:

Soooo… we're about to wrap this round up! Once it gets back to me I'll go through everything and get us a fresh box, then we'll get Round 3 going. If you're interested please PM me and let me know! if you're not sure what all this craziness is about check out this post.

Thanks to all who participated in Round 2!!!!

I'm anxiously awaiting my stop on round three. Gonna put a couple blanks in there that none of you have seen!

There is a local fellow selling hundreds of pen kits and blanks at a probably yard sale this weekend. I might have to see what I can nab from there to put in also.

So far he wants to sell as a package yet, but he has too much to dump at those prices.
