Project Information

I hooked up for the first time my 1 H.P. D.C. to my bandsaw (and later my tablesaw) via the cyclone lid and did some work. The suction from the can was strong and most of the dust (99% according to the spec.) was collected in the can. The can also provides some protection for my motor fan in the D.C. as large pieces, wood or otherwise, are not sucked into the D.C. directly.

There're several kinds of such lids in the market. Get the ones that make the inlet air swirl around. See the swirl mark left in the can as shown in the pic. Mine was from LV ( http://tinyurl.com/66acqe ). Worth the investment.

I have one of these, that fits a five gallon bucket, attached to my table saw. I empty the bucket a lot, but the shop-vac is much happier.

I bought one too, and made the condo vac… works like a charm.

Rikkor and Slacker:

Consider upgrading your shopvac to a 1 HP DC (you can keep and use the same lid, just enlarge the 2 1/2" holes to 4" ones as I did).

Benefits:

1) Much strong collection power; 2) Shopvacs are notoriously noisy; 1 HP DCs are very quiet; 3) Much better filtration (I use the 1 micro bag)

1 HP D.C. can be had for around $120 US or so (mine is $155 in Canada).

I know that they work. You do lose some CFM but gain a way to not get big chunks in the impeller.

I have one for a five gallon bucket and it does great. I like your idea Slacker on the combo. I may try to come up with something like that for mine.

It's so nice to empty the trash can instead of the DC : ) Well worth the $30 plus metal trash can price .
