Project Information
About 5 years ago, someone at our church used a 500 gallon propane tank and converted it into a big gas cooker/grill for the church. Bonnie and I recently started helping out in the kitchen and I noticed on Wednesday when we cooked hamburgers for the kids that all we have is 3 or 4 of the "kitchen style" flippers. They are only about 12" long overall, and when reaching all the way into that big grill I was almost cooking my arms.
I asked one of the guys why didn't we have any BBQ tools that were long enough, and he said "That's all we've ever had." So I brought 2 of them to the house and made longer handles. These 2 are now 26" and 29" long and should really make it easier to cook on that grill. The top one is maple and the bottom one was a piece of PT 2X4 that I cut down on the band saw. To keep the small metal rod from pulling out I bent it in 3 places (kinda like a "Z" ) and forced it into the drilled-out end,and used JB Weld to epoxy it into the handle. Both handles have 3 coats of Tung oil.
Not really much of a "project" but I'm sure the other folks who work in the kitchen will appreciate it.
