Project Information

I have been trolling lumberjocks for a few months looking for ideas to make my shop area more efficient. After combining a lot of different projects from various publications and this forum, here is the (nearly) finished product. I started with some open storage cabinets (3/4" birch plywood) with movable shelves for tools, etc. I added a 92" removable work surface (3/4" plywood with a 1/4" hardboard covering trimmed out with poplar 1×3's). Having this removable work surface allowed me to use a portion underneath for miter saw storage (when not in use) with the option to raise the miter saw up to cabinet-top level with the use of a cleat. The miter saw is mounted on the same 3/4" plywood with 1/4" hardboard cover design as the removable work surface. After putting this all together it occurred to me that a dedicated cabinet at the far-right end would be a great router table station with nearly 10' of space to the left for running stock. I am getting ready to put together a crosscut sled for my table saw and will be building an extension fence with the Kreg track system that will be able to be used on either the miter saw station or the crosscut sled. Still working on the engineering for that project. Thank you for all of your inspiration and ideas!

Ken, thank you. I really liked your sled project. How do you like it? I have the plans for the Woodsmith precision crosscut sled. I am planning to make it this weekend. It is going to make all the future projects so much easier.

Jeff, I appreciate your comments. Great carvings! I am very impressed. I noticed you are in central Illinois. I am up there all the time for work - as a matter of fact I need to be up in about three hours to get up there!

Marty, glad to be here. I have been on LJ a lot over the past few months. I have learned so much. I liked your clamp rack idea. It would have been perfect if it wasn't for that Tide banner on the wall. I am a Mizzou grad!
