Project Information

These two jewelry boxes were my second attempt at box making. The walnut box was the first time I built the box as one piece then cut the lid off. It did not turn out that well for the first walnut box I made. Then I figured out if I nearly cut all the way through on the table saw and finished it off with a hand saw and a block plane it turned out much better. I will post my first box soon, that box was also my first attempt at double bevel marquetry.

Mick, I think that White Oak and Black Walnut is my favorite combination of wood colors. They really go together well. The delicate job you did on the ribbon is great craftsmanship. The concept of having the lid fit inside the top as you did on the light colored box is an interesting choice, but I much prefer your hinged lid for its appearance and function. Of course, you have mastered the art of box making and have done an excellent job on both of these boxes. Here is more information on cutting off lids. Keep boxing and keep posting.
