Project Information

This was a commission table built of reclaimed barn beams and hand forged metal legs. I did the table top and my friend did the legs. The table top was finished with Danish oil and many coats of polyurethane. The customer wanted an industrial farmhouse table and I talked her into letting my friend do the legs, as opposed to pipe fittings that she originally wanted. The hard part of this is that it is 8 feet long (they have a loft apartment) and planing these down with hand planes was a bit difficult. I like how it turned out a lot, but I know a few things I would do differently next time.

Very nice. I hope they like it. One of the reasons I shy away from the bigger projects. Very difficult to work with in a small shop. I think every project I've ever done there are things I want to do differently.

I love the table top and the steel legs. I'm a woodworker and a mechanical engineer who has spent 34 years around steel fabrication. I really love the combination of wood and steel….you nailed it my friend. I love everything about it! Added to favorites. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the comments guys! Like I said, we are really happy with it. My shop is 1/2 of a double car garage, so this 8' table is a perfect example of why I put all my big tools and stuff on casters! It was challenging to finish because I used my sprayer in there, leaning the table against the wall, which then precluded me from doing anything else in the shop. I can't complain though - they loved it and it gave my buddy and I a chance to try something… Which weight be trying again soon!

I really like that you kept the texture in the wood. The color is just right.

Stunning table! I love the industrial farmhouse look. Very well done. Seems you and your partner should work together more often. 8)
