Hi Bill,

I have often said that maple and cherry were my favorite wood combination. You did very well both in the wood selection and in the construction of the piece as well. The spalted maple is gorgeous. You should be proud of this piece it is excellent.

I am glad to see that you are sharing your talents as well with your two daughter's-in-law. But I guess that you knew you couldn't just build one when you started this.

Thanks for the post.

Those are really spectacular. I've never seen the spalted maple used in that large of a panel - but I really do like it. Good job - bet you are know the "favorite father-in-law".

Wow, that is gorgeous! That spalted maple is amazing. How did you find such wide panels of the spalted maple? It must have cost a fortune. Really nice woods and design. And that cat carving is amazing too! Looks just like a real cat.

That chest is absolutely gorgeous. One of the nicest pieces I've seen here. I have some maple and cherry projects ahead of me for sure. Thanks for the inspiration!

Nice Chest you made there. Got a small hunk of spalted maple myself….......nothing that would do that large of a project. But I can't wait to find a project for it.

BTW….......where in Michigan are you? Kalamazoo here!

Bill,

This chest is a true inspiration, your choice of material is exceptional and the 4 panel design is in perfect proportion. It inspires me to rot some of my own maple and try something similar. The cherry and maple look amazing together.

Thanks you for sharing such an inspirational piece.

Very nice - I'd love to make something similar… do you have a close-up of how you did the joinery for the corners?
