Project Information

This is one of my fun projects I did a while back. It was definitely one of the most involved project I've ever done due to requiring so many fields of knowledge to actually complete this. I built this based upon a design I found online. I apologize that I can't find the original designer of the cabinet, but credit is due for giving me the basics. I altered the design a bit to make it smaller so it would fit inside my room and of course altered the dimensions to fit the TV properly. This is a modular arcade cabinet where you can interchange individual panels to fit the game, so I have a good bit of different panels behind the cabinet for various games. It uses RJ45 connections to make changing the panels a breeze. It supports up to 4 players and has the capability of installing a trackball, flight stick, steering wheel, whatever. Did I mention I love this design? lol. Everything is legit as I tried to own the original ROM's of all the games loaded and as you can see, I also made it inter-operable with various consoles via an automatic switch. I have the N64, Dreamcast, SNES, Saturn, and Genesis with SegaCD. Here are a few more photos of the build. If you have any questions about it, I'll be glad to answer. Thanks for looking.

Nice cabinet. Excelent wirering. Super nice with extra space for all your old consoles. I wish I had thought of that.
Is this the original: http://www.beersmith.com/mame/ ?

Anyways… Did you hook up the coinslot, so its operational? It looks like you have "insert credit" buttons next to "Player start" buttons?
And what does that extra button, next to the joysticks do? Is that a cheating "Autofire" function? :-D
I also noticed the pinball buttons on the side. Well done

Thanks for the comments. Yes! It was the beersmith's design for the modular control panels and there was someone else who did the basic cabinet design, although it does look universal, doesn't it? Thank you for that; now I can give proper credit.
And yes, the Coinslot does indeed work; obviously for 2 players, but works nonetheless. And I do have the Insert Credit buttons in case someone doesn't want to use the coinslot, especially in 4 player mode, like Gauntlet.
The extra button next to the joystick is a misc button in some games or a required button in others, namely the Run button for Mortal Kombat II and others that may have similar functions. I guess I could program it for "autofire"...thanks for the idea. LOL.
Yeah, I forgot to mention about the pinball buttons with the "nudge" button next to them.
Oh, I also use Hyperspin as the front-end. I'm still learning how to use it, but love the interface. I haven't been able to get external games to load quite yet, lik SSFIV Arcade, but I will eventually. I brought this out on Thanksgiving day a few years ago and it was a hit with the kids. It kept them busy and having fun, trying to take turns. It actually gave them a glimpse of what old arcade games were really like instead of just playing them on Xbox/360/One, PS3/4, etc. That was a nice feeling. :)

Great looking cabinet and system. I was just talking with someone about building one of these this winter. Hope you don't mind if I borrow a few ideas.

By all means. I took mine off of someone else and modded it to my needs. I'm now thinking it was someone at Gamespot who decided to make one and posted an article on it. I just can't find the link anymore. It's been a long time. If you need any details, let me know.
