Project Information

Hello, Joe here.
This is the first project I have added to LumberJocks so please forgive me if i have done something wrong. I only have one picture of it right now but i will add more later if I am able to.

I put this together in a few days using old fence panels and pallet wood.
All the wood was free except for 6 2X4s that i needed to buy since i used all of my pallet runners on another project. I wanted it to look rustic so i didnt put anything through the planer.

I made the door handle/latch out of wood also, but i dont have a good picture of it at this time.
Let me know what you think!

Total cost, about $20 for screws, six 2X4s and a cheap toilet seat.

Fine example of a good old Texas One-Holer. Does it have a seat in it?

Brings back memories of my teen years tipping these over at night as a not too funny prank. Nice work with the fence lumber.

I absolutely love this! It would be a great tiny shed for garden tools!

Mom must be pleased with it, but she's going to be cold in the winter!

What is the intent?, shed?, and why the "cheap toilet seat", decoration or use?

Thanks for the compliments! I made it able to accept a 5 gallon bucket for ocasional functional use as a bathroom when my parents host a "booya."
The toilet part is easily removed so it can be converted to a small shed in the off months. Here are a few pictures I took quick of the inside and door lock.

Perfect use for pallet wood! Re being cold in the winter-I'm just waiting to see a solar outhouse, :). It brings back memories of visiting my grandma in the country. Spiders were always my worry.

Nice work.
As with others it brings back memories. Yours is pretty fancy with the modern toilet seat. All ours had was a hole with a board lid…..at least we didn't have to use corn cobs.
At about 15 years old I dug the last pit new for the one on my grandparents farm before they retired and moved to "town".
To modernize your's even more and make it easier to service you might add a Porta potty. They are a little less smelly and easier to clean than a 5 gallon bucket.

Cold doesn't seem all that bad to me, guys. The first time you poop in one of these bad dogs in the middle of the desert you'd be praying for a cold day! The temperature amplifies the smell and the jon amplifies the temperature…its a brutal circle. Then you have the added bonus of flies trying to get their meal from the source…maybe that was a bit much. Back to my original point, beautiful porta-jon, man!

+1, may not be fun in the frigid winter, but infinitely better than in the dog days of summer.

Wit apologies to Bobby Bare-

"Ode To The Little Brown Shack Out Back"

They passed an ordinance in the town they said we'd have to tear it down
That little old shack out back so dear to me
Though the health department said its day was over and dead
It will stand forever in my memory.

Don't let them tear that little brown building down
Don't let them tear that precious building down
Don't let them tear that dear old building down
There's not another like it in the country or the town.

It was not so long ago that I went tripping through the snow
Out to that house behind my old hound dog
Where I would sit me down to rest like a snowbird on his nest
And I'd read that Sears and Roebuck catalog.

Oh, I would hum a happy tune peeping through the quarter moon
As my daddy's kin had done so much before
It was in that quiet spot daily cares could be forgot
And it gave the same relief to rich and poor.

Now it was not a castle fair but I could dream of future there
Build my castle to the yellow jackets drone
I could orbit round the sun fight with General Washington
Or be a king upon a golden throne.

It wasn't fancy built at all we had newspapers on the wall
It was air-conditioned in the wintertime
Oh it was just an humble hut but its door was never shut
And a man could get inside without a dime.
