Project Information

This Dancing Bears Wood Carving would make the Perfect Wood Wedding Anniversary Gift for your Wife or Husband. I carved it out of one piece of wood. It is a really cute piece.

I call this carving "Bearly Swinging". Boo and Betty Bear are so in Love. These two compliment each other very well. They love being with each other and really like doing almost anything together but dancing is the best. They have so much fun together. They are such a great example for all the other woodland couples. They are always seen walking hand in hand, loving their simple life, even after so many cycles together.

This piece measures 9" tall x 13" wide x 1" thick

It is flat on the back. I have attached a metal self leveling hanger on the back for it to hang on and I have signed it Wiz on the front.

I carved it out of a Big Leaf Maple. It has Burl, Curly and some really fun figuring and color in the grain. A burl is usually caused by a trees reaction to an agro bacteria. It starts sending out a huge number of buds showing birds eye grain through out the burl. It is very unusual and is very interesting to look at.

The technique I use is called Pierced Relief. It is carved out of one piece of wood and nothing is added. I have been carving since 1971 and a tree was the first carving I did. I have always been stimulated to carve a resemblance of a tree out of a tree. My technique has evolved over all of these years to what you see here. I keep seeing ways to make things more life like. And I love a piece to look like it is in the middle of a story that each observer can make up. Sometimes a different story each time we look at it and sometimes the same one. I love giving a piece the feeling of action. Sometimes tranquil and sometimes playful. I love it all.

You must work under a microscope to get that detail. Beautiful work.

This carving brings back memories when my wife and could still dance before all our bone problems slowed us down. 'Charming' is a very good description of this beautiful work. I was very good at the two step. That's where you first step on your partner's left foot and then the follow up stepping on her right foot.
