Project Information
My first turning project, a cherry pepper mill that a guild member helped me make (read more about it in my blog post 1 and post 2). This project was made from a salvaged 2 foot piece of 12/4 cherry that had a horrible check running straight through it. I had been saving it for about 2 years thinking "it'd be neat to (wood) turn it into a pepper mill one day". Well that day has finally come. This mill replaces a behemoth 3 foot pepper mill (a Costco purchase that was fun, until it got old) that my daughter broke 4 months ago. I put on 5 coats of satin Arm-R-Seal and will let the cherry age naturally.
PS: The mortar and pestle in the backdrop of the photo was our (mainly my wife's) "temporary" replacement, because I promised to "one day" make her a pepper mill. After a few uses of it myself, I can say that she is a very patient woman, and I am one lucky guy. Did I mention she's the one who convinced me to take up woodworking?
