How to mortise a long rail.
I am in the process of building another side gate for the house. I had two rails that were 55" long.
Too long to fit in the mortising jig which I normally clamp to the workbench. I needed to raise the mortising
jig approximately 9". Instead of building something which would have taken more time and material; I looked around the garage and noticed the bottom drawer of my router cabinet was the size I needed. After emptying the drawer and removing the false front, it was ready to use. Quick and easy. Hope this tip comes in handy.
