Project Information
Those of you who may have seen my recent review of my two week stint at the American School of French Marquetry are probably not surprised that my next project would be a chevalet of my own.
It's made of cherry, because that's what I had a lot of, with a saw bow of oak. I purchased one of Patrick Edward's fine hardware kits which include a full scale set of plans. I'm not used to making boxes from plans, but having a set certainly made this project go easier and quicker.
The chevalet, of course, is the key tool to creating marquetry in the French method. As Paul Miller (shipwright) and others have covered the function and construction of the chevalet in considerable detail, I won't repeat that information here.
My interest in marquetry is primarily to "up my game" a bit with my boxes, and my decision to spend some time with Patrick Edwards and Patrice LeJeune exceeded my expectations. Now to do the final adjustments and blade alignment, and I'm off and running.
Thanks for looking in,
Roger
