Project Information

This is a little redundant because this is featured in my workshop post, but I wanted to get it out there as a project to allow others to find it and give some design ideas because I relied so much on the projects posted of miter stations for this design. Many were from lumberjacks and I thank you guys. I had been planning it for 18 months and have spent many hours on sketchup getting it right before making the first cut. It is the centerpiece of my shop. The wood is all milled from a major purchase of rough sawn Missouri walnut I found on Craig's list about 5 years ago for $150. I had to rent a Uhaul to get it all home. As you can see there is some beautiful burled walnut that I used for the pulls and even some spalted walnut that I incorporated on the face frame ( far left vertical face frame). I took my time on this project. The double dovetail drawers were done on the Incra router table. Real pain in the ass, but worth it in the end. The table top is a laminate for durability. I popped the Birdseye with dyed shellac and finished it all with gloss general finishes high performance then rubbed it all with waxed 0000 steel wool. Cabinets all have pull out drawers. So much storage that most of the drawers are still empty. The open design to the left is inspired from the Ron Paulk design to keep the clutter off the surface. Middle cabinet is set forward 5 inches from the wall to allow dust not captured by the dust collector to fall to the floor and be vacuumed up easily. Fences can be moved in all directions on the T Tracks and slide out as well.

Very nice project, I like the flat slid outs under neath. Beautiful work and a lot of choice wood for a work station.

That's certainly one of the nicest miter saw workstations I've ever seen…anywhere!
Beautiful workmanship!

You certainly put a lot of thought into the design and construction of this station. It looks more like high end furniture than a shop cabinet, but if you have the skills and the material-- why not? It should inspire you to create some really nice projects in your shop.
Is the height of the miter saw adjustable? Or did you have to build it perfectly flush with the counters? On mine I shimmed the tables level with the saw.
Well done.

Thanks, I made the counter a bit higher than the height of the saw and shimmed the counter top of the miter saw to be level with the counter top on each side.

Joinery on the drawers is called a Double Dovetail joint which can be made using the repeatability of the incra router fence system. There are YouTube videos on how the joint is made by incra. I can't explain it in words.

Really nice! But that's got to be your "show" shop…. where is the real one with all the sawdust? :)

Scott,
Welcome to the LumberJocks family.

That's a very nice SCMS Station you built from all that beautiful old walnut and birdseye maple you had laying around.
Very nicely appointed and a fantastic 'fit and finish'. Eye Candy for the Shop to be certain.

Best Regards. - Grandpa Len.

Superb craftsmanship.
Your Saw-Station is the flagship item in a fantastic workshop.
You have set the bar high,
but I have a feeling we have much more to come.
Cheers, Jinky (James).

Yep what Ocelot siad , Showoff . I just could not see useing that saw station except in the House as a Bar or somethig. I would be afraid of damaging it in the Shop.
