Project Information

My other pens were received so well I decided to share a few more pens I made. Going from left to right, the desert camouflage and pink & blue acetate pens are for my nephew, who is in the Army, and his wife, respectively. I still have to mail those out to him. The third made from some curly maple scrap that I had on hand. The fourth is one I made for myself. The wood is Cocobolo and needless to say, it's my favorite of all the pens I made.

Randy, #1 and #3 are the Cuban style, so named because it's fat like a Cuban cigar - http://www.rockler.com/wood-turning/pen-turning-kits?wood_turning_style=6827

#2 is the Summit style - http://www.rockler.com/wood-turning/pen-turning-kits?wood_turning_style=6840

#4 is the Manhattan style - http://www.rockler.com/wood-turning/pen-turning-kits?wood_turning_style=6830

Candy, I also like the Maple pen a lot. That one was actually and experiment that went right, as I really didn't know if the curls would show up the way they did. I got lucky! :D

Gary, it's my OCN… Obsessive, Compulsive Nature. ^_^

I'm taking a break for a little while, until my budget allows me to gather more kits. When I can I will gather a couple dozen kits in one pop, and just keep turning 'em out until I run out…. then maybe get some sleep, go back to my paying work, whatever.

Heck Ted, when you said that pen turning was addictive, you were right. Lovely new lot of pens. Like them all.

Candy, I don't show the many experiments that failed miserably, and believe me they way outnumber the successful ones.

Thanks bob, but these are not a new lot… just a few I didn't take photos of until now. I'm setting some money aside for the next batch of kits so it will be a week or so until I crank out any more. But yeah, I'd say I'm addicted. :)

Yes, all very nice. Thnx to your nephew for his service first. Secondly, Cocobolo is a very popular wood for pens imo. Always makes a nice writing instument. What finish are you using on the acrylics? Thnx in advance.

Thanks All :)

Roger, I don't use anything on the acrylics, just sand to 2000 grit with Micromesh pads.

True that about Cocobolo… seems half the people who see the pens really like the Cocobolo. Seems the Curly Maple is also popular. Fortunately, I have plenty of both! :D
