Project Information

I'll add a few more pictures soon but I've made several of these for craft shows this year. Cherry, maple, walnut, and chestnut have outsold pine and poplar 3 to 1 so far.

The Chestnut had so many worm tracks (and my saw REALLY needs to be filed and set) the saw followed the track in a few places leaving some gaps in the dovetails. Nothing too bad but they're there if you know what you're looking for.

I have a few curly hickory scraps that will make a nice wagon or two as well. I tried a couple wheelbarrows and it was a swing and a miss! They were awful but they sold the first weekend! Guess you never know.

Thanks pto. No, I couldn't say the last time I did use plans on any project. I just kind of let the stock tell me where to go on small stuff like this. I just get a rough idea in my head and run with it. At times, design changes are made on the fly. If you want to make one shoot me a P.M. and I'd be happy send you some measurments

Shane,
Really nice.

Is this wagon a planter? From the image I don't see how it could be functional.

Thanks for sharing it.

Russ,

Thanks for the comments.

Its really just a dust collector to be sold at craft shows. I do make some in Cedar with stainless steel screen bottoms (lined with a piece of landscape fabric) to be used as outdoor planters. The first round I made for SWMBO had galvanized wire bottoms and it left black stains on the bottom of the wood. If anyone makes these, use stainless ONLY. I buy it at Lowe's but I'm sure most hardware stores stock/can order it for you.

Even though the outdoor wagons are made of Red Cedar, I still spray several heavy coats of Spar Varnish to help protect the piece. The customer lines the bottom with stones and adds their own potting soil.
