Project Information

This is my first attempt at a cutting board. I had some time on my hands while I waited on supplies for my coffee table project and I'd seen so many of these cutting boards online that I decided to throw one together. I had no idea how time consuming these things are! I used what I had on hand, I had to laminate the padauk together to get a thicker board and the maple I had was spalted inside so the board has a little more colour than most. I finished it with the salad bowl and cutting board finish from Lee Valley…as I understand, it's basically bee's wax and mineral oil.

In the time since I made this board, it's gotten a lot of sun in our kitchen. The Padauk has toned down to a very deep purple. The Maple is also a deeper tone. This is shown in pictures 3 and 4.

Nice job, Brad.

The spalting has an interesting effect - makes it look like the padauk is bleeding color into the maple.

Love the colors. I don't think I've seen anything like this before on LJ. Very NICE!

Good job. The padauk is such a nice contrast to the maple.
