Project Information

My father in law and I built this version of the Bombe chest from the April 2012 Woodsmith magazine. He did nearly (if not all) the work on the legs and front frame, while the drawers were primarily mine. We didn't have a machine big enough to flatten the top, so that was done by hand as well. The dovetails were also done by hand, but everything else was electron driven.

The entire thing is poplar except for a plywood back, drawer bottoms, and side panels. The sides and drawers were veneered (Sapele) using a vacuum press he built for this project. Finish is lacquer all around. Black lacquer paint, and clear coat over everything.

This piece was for charity, and auctioned off to raise $900 for the local food bank.
