Project Information

Years ago, a veteran wood turner in our club, had demonstrated turning a cube mounted on the lathe by its two opposite corners. Since then it was always in my mind to do it myself. I did not have a suitable blank for that project, so I laminated some off cuts including plywood to make 12×12x12 cm cube. Also, I built two special cups to hold the cube between centres. I glued one of them to the cube to enable me to hollow it. To display it in best way, I turned a tripod stand and a lid from red gum. The tripod was a project by itself and needed turning and carving work. I spent really good time from the start to finish.

Hi Sam. Great unique turning. Thanks for showing how you did it, too. That is always interesting on a cool piece such as this. I love the orientation of the planes of the laminations and the very sweet display stand..

Cheers, Jim

Incredible work. I study it for a while, leave the page then come back for more. I can't wait til I'm good enough to do woodworking purely for art. I've got a very long way to go. Thanks for sharing!
