Project Information
This is a wonderful piece of Walnut. I had a Walnut tree trunk for a couple of years thinking that I might carve a chair out of it. I never did and finally milled it about 3 years ago. I have been letting it dry and then I sort of forgot about it. I saw it the other day and it clicked. I had no idea what the grain was going to be like. I was pleasantly surprised. There is some nice figure in the grain and some great coloring. And I love how the shape turned out. This is a pretty large heart and makes quite a statement. Especially with the color contrast on a light colored wall. I carved a little ripple in the tail that adds to the whimsical feel to the piece.
I draw the heart on the wood, cut it out with a jig saw, ruff it out with a chain saw, finish grinding the shape with an angle grinder, then sand with a random orbit sander. Finished with Ace brand Premium Enamel in a spray can and buffed out.
