Project Information

I responded to an ad for free lumber and it was 2×10 spruce and some pine from construction sites.
I thought I would see what I could do with it. The intention was to use a window from an old 1950's door and for it to be rustic with all the holes and dents left in it.
Only after I installed it did I realize the fatal design flaw - it was too heavy and the whole unit tipped over!
As you can tell - I design as I go based on the materials on hand and a thorough lack of planning.

It's 36.625" wide x 46.5" high x 10" deep and is all construction debris except for some pine barn cladding for the drawers. I found an old sign in our parking lot at work and cleaned it up for the back. The glass and hardware are new.

Cheers
Greg

Very nice! That's one heck of a paint job. How did you get such a great finish?

Thanks guys
The wood is just primed, sanded, paint, sanded + paint with latex
I brush it on because I want it to look like an old farm cabinet
After it's dry I rub on Min-wax in a circular pattern and let it set for a few minutes and then dry rub in circular patterns with a white cotton rag until the wax polishes up. It tones the white to an off white and the high spots on the brush work have a satin sheen. It gives an authentic look. It's what the box store furniture imports do. Your hand should glide over the finish. This works nicely on chalk paint finishes as well. I did it for the other white units here.
cheers
