Project Information

I came across this after one of those "Hey wait a minute, what about that first box I made?" (2 years ago). My Mom needed a medication lock box for my niece, Ashley. This was my first box made with the "Route-r-jig" from Woodline. The box turned out ok, but after looking back at the finish, there was a lot to be desired. I wish I had spent more time on the finish & installed a different lock (mortised). She was happy with the result. The joinery was "Wave" template, not super strong, but visually appealing.

cool box. I like the joinery, like you said not totally strong but for a box it doesn't really need to be. i think that it came out great, thanks for the post.

Looking good there, all that matters is the thought that went into it and the recieving end liked it. A good reminder do put your name on every piece of work. It will last longer than we will. Thanks for shareing.

Not sure if I've ever built something that I was totally pleased with … always see those little things I wish I would have or could have done differently … but I'd say you did a fine job … my first go around with the Incra jig couldn't even be considered a box … I screwed that thing up so bad the only thing it was good for was fire wood! lol

Great looking little box. I bet those joints are plenty strong enough for this application. I have always been partial to aspen. I think because my dad was. I literally threw away my first box. I was trying out a mitered lock joint bit in my router - it didn't turn out so well. So I used it to try out some straight and dovetailed splines across the corners. My son fished it out of the trash and still uses it for his treasures…

Nice looking box.

Don't worry…. the whole coulda, woulda, shoulda thing is what makes box-making an addiction. <g>

Bradford,

This is a nice looking box. The joinery does add a nice visual effect and it provides a nic eglue surface as well so it should be strong enough for its intended purpose. Well done!!
