Project Information

This is a box a co worker asked me to make to keep his knives in. His requests was nothing too fancy but to have a handle on top. I used rabbets for joinery and for added strength I added some decorative screws. Not knowing how many knives would be in here I wanted it strong. I made the handle using a forstner bit and jig saw. Smoothed out with a round over bit. Stained with red oak stain and semi gloss ply. Box is 19X9.5X10 high. I have to admit, boxes always seem the most fun projects to make!

Nice design for the intended purpose. Has a rugged look to it. Looks great. I agree with you on making boxes. From wood choice and pairing, design, joinery, finishing etc., so many ways to learn and hone your woodworking skills. Thanks for posting your project.

Love the box. I'm curious what sort of knives are going in there.

Thanks everyone for the comments and for looking. I really enjoyed making this. 49er, no, I didn't include a lid stop. I need to work on that. I like the ones that are mortised into the side rail. Practice needed there. Oldsaxon, all he told me was a place to keep hunting knives, and others, no dividers, one full size tray for smaller knives and deep. Insisted on a handle. I guess the rest was up to my imagination. Lee, seems I do get a lot of orders from work, I wonder what happens when I retire :) Again thanks all for looking.
