Project Information

Simple homemade teleprompter.

Materials required: 8"x10" picture frame
1 1/4"x20 thread bolt
two hinges
13" 4:3 lcd monitor (not widescreen!)
scrap lumber

This project was a quick attempt to make a homemade teleprompter for some video work. I started by making a box into which my LCD monitor would would fit. Then I inset a 1/4"x20 nut to connect it to a tripod. Then I connected an 8"x10" picture frame to the case. Finally I notched out a corner of the frame for a prop rod to hold the screen at 45° to the surface of the monitor, and notched out slots for the monitor power cable and VGA cable to connect it to the computer.

What's the point of using one when you have your laptop right there?

@Bob the point is that either myself or someone else can look directly at the camera and talk without looking aside. When I video multiple people in a row (not something I do frequently) but then I can swap out scripts while still having a dashboard on the computer to see a live input from the video camera (using the monitor as an extended desktop.

Well done, Mizzourob. Not to get too political, but you may want to market this to a certain someone who currently lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Washington, DC…he seems to love those things. ;-)
