Project Information

This piece is made from reclaimed and scrap timber. For the carving I used Red Gum which was only a trial as I was unsure how it would go. As you can see I persevered but I don't think I will use it again. Very hard and difficult to carve. But it served a purpose. The lid and base are floating flooring that's why the thickness and two colours. As for the main box - I have no idea. Coated with two coats of Satin Poly & lined with velvet.

Interesting combination of materials. Is that the natural colour of the red gum? Lovely piece. Keep it up.

Wow, that's a lovely carving - very impressive hand work. You did a marvelous job. Maybe next time you could try an easier wood like cherry or butternut, I think both would look wonderful.

Nice to see you on LJ again Theresa. I missed your last post and it was a while before that.
This is really nice. My first thought was that it looked like it should have a cream filling. Looks like a chocolate cookie.
I does look good enough to eat too.

Yes John it is the natural colour of the Red Gum. Like all wood it varies a bit.
Paul - a cookie ?? Haha that's a good one maybe I should rename it !

Very nice you succeed to carve even the wood was not comfortable. I like it.
