Project Information

Anniversary Bible Box, Chester County, PA, ca. 1740. Curly cherry - Boiled linseed oil and shellac.

Line-and-berry design on the front is based on those I saw at a Wintertur exhibit last year.
Side inlays are initials of my wife and myself, with some added frills, in holly and dyed walnut.

This was made to match a spice box I made just prior with the same wood.
I think I will add an insert tray.

Thanks for looking and God bless.

Thanks very much for the kind comments.

You might notice that the inlaid letters were limited by either straight lines or, when a curve was involved, by the arc of a compass. My hope is to be able to do more 'free-hand' traditional lettering, as done by the likes of Steve Latta. That looks like rather tricky work, but the lettering looks better IMO.

Thanks again and God bless,

-Bill

Pat,
That 'tool chest' is an apothecary chest from a 19th century country store. I found it in Roanoke Rapids, NC in an antique shop. Quite handy for small stuff, and the old pine patina is really pretty.
