Unfortunately I didn't get better photos of this before I gave it away, but this is a technique I haven't seen here before. The petals are cut from a wood dowel, soaked in hot water, and then wrapped around the neck of a wine bottle to dry. The newly curved petals are then glued together in pairs and then into layers. This particular flower had 2 layers, but you could use the method for any number of them (depending on how much patience you have). The stem is a bent bamboo skewer with a "button" cut from a dowel on the end. The petal layers are hung upside down on the stem+button when the glue is drying.
