Project Information

Here's another Navy Ship's Wheel that I recently completed. The customer wanted to mount some of his coins and rating pins around the outside so I had to build it a bit larger to accommodate. Overall I feel it turned out really nice. Padauk is another naturally beautiful wood. The finish is just clear gloss wipe-on poly.

Being a prior Navy man "ABH" this makes me proud. What a great piece of craftsmanship.

Thanks to all!

Lew,

The bit size was 1 3/4. The standard size for the coins is 45mm which converts to 1.77 inches. I had to lightly sand the edges of the coins for them to fit the holes.

Being a retired Navy Chief, and a former snipe, I'm curious as to why all the different rating symbols? I see an IC, MM, BT, HT, EN, MR, etc. What's the significance there? I was an MM for 8 years, turned twigit for the last 12 and retired as an STGC in 1998. When I retired, I lived in a no garage, no shop condo, so had to opt for a store bought shadow box. This would have been much nicer to have. Nice job

Jason,
First let me tell you that I am brand new here and I'm not all that blog and messages board savvy, so I hope this gets to you.

Now, I have a friend who is retireing in June. She sent me the link to your Navy Ships Wheel Shandow box and would really like one for herself. Do you only make them for people who you know or do you accept orders for them? If so, please let me know the prices and any other details that I would need to know. Thank you in advance.
