Project Information

New Magnetic Knife Racks for my Etsy shop.
12" and 18"
Show here are: Oak, Barn Board, Walnut, Birch, Maple and Cherry.

I used 1/2 inch rare earth magnets and cut the holes with a cnc to get a perfectly flat bottom hole. The magnets sit .023" from the visible surface. I added washers to the back of each magnet (to increase magnetic strength, I tested this it works) and filled the holes with a maple dowel. After the dowels were set I cut them flush to the back.

I used 9 magnets for the 12" and 14 for the 18". Magnets are from lee valley. Does anyone know a better source to purchase these magnets from in the Toronto Area.

If you are in the Toronto area I will participating in a pop up market coming up on Dec 7th and 8th run by Makers Cartel. I will have these for sale at the market.

I can't say where to get them in Toronto, but ebay is loaded with rare magnets for very reasonable.

Clever idea, I hope that you have better luck on Etsy than I have had. I understand that it takes awhile to get that first sale.
