Project Information

This bowl is made from American Holly and has a Black Palm lid and finial. The Holly is from a tree grown in a small Central Florida town. The Black Palm is an exotic wood. The bowl measures 6 inches in diameter by 7 inches high including the finial. The bowl has a satin lacquer finish.

The Holly came from a very large tree damaged in the hurricanes of 2004 in FL. I managed to get one large log from it. If I had known what an awesome wood Holly is I would have made the effort to cut up the whole tree. The log I did get was about 16 inches in diameter by 3 ft long and my daughter and I had to roll it to our house.

Spectacular turning here, the color is so perfect for this piece. At first glance it looks like fired pottery.
