Project Information

Another sad task, this casket was made entirely from Sapele Mahogany, the carcass being dovetailed all round before being veneered with Santos Rosewood. The veneer where possible was matched on the corners, applied under pressure using a slow cure aliphatic resin. The top was shaped using a combination of cutters in my router, cleaned up working down through the grades before being dowelled and glued into place. The brass plate recessed into the top bears the name of the deceased (blanked out}. The ashes were placed inside the box through the bottom which was located on dowels before being screwed into place, the screws were then covered with felt pads to prevent removal. The casket was finished using a number of coats of melamine lacquer which was burnished to a high gloss finish using 0000 wire wool pad working with the grain. Sad that these items have to be made but the family of the deceased was very pleased with the result, a final resting place for a life long friend, the least any man can do.

What a very nice Urn, though I've never heard it referred as an ash casket.
