Project Information

I've been on a curly maple kick of late, but the wood is so beautiful and such a joy to turn that I just can't help myself.

The latest project is a salad plate, 9" diameter, and about 3/4" thick, though it's about 3/16 at the rim. Turning such thin, flexible material is a new experience, and I'm hoping that with a little repetition to improve on this first effort. Sanded to 600 grit, wiped with a couple coats of General salad bowl finish then buffed with tripoli and white diamond.

The last photo shows it matched with the spalted curly salad bowl of a couple weeks ago.

Love that curly maple! I understand the kick you're on as I just finished curly maple drawer fronts for a shop cabinet (actually I'm still working on the finish).

Super looking plate. Very evenly grained maple.
