Project Information

My dad got me some flexcut chip carving chisels for my birthday. These are really nice! I would recommend them to anyone. I couldn't leave them in the plastic package, so I whipped this up quickly out of some scraps. I got this super ugly piece of cherry. Very light- almost poplar colored and no figure. I decided to resaw a piece for the top. It actually looks kind of nice in the middle!

I ran a little low on cherry, so I didn't have enough room to rabbet the bottom in. It's just a shop box so I wasn't worried.

Cut off lid, purple heart splines, and a random mix of cherry and butternut on the bottom. The dividers are hard maple.
Finish is brushed shellac.

Thanks guys. I should have gotten a before pic of this cherry. It's amazing what a little sunlight and shellac can do

If you like nice looking things in your shop, then you should be encouraging me to spend more time out there. ;)

And yes, you should have taken a before picture of that cherry. It was a hideous looking piece of wood.

You already spend way more time in there than I do, but you are the best looking thing to go into or come of of the shop :)

I agree. I was so disappointed when that came out of the planer. all 12' of it was just gross. I've never seen any wood that ugly, never mind cherry. The shellac and some UV light perked it right up though. Shellac is my new favorite finish
