Project Information

Over on Woodworkingformeremortals.com Steve Ramsey had posted a video about using wood from old pallets to make Pallet Coasters. Of course I had to make some for the craft show, and while they were a hit, several folks wondered where the forklift was.
Well, a bit of tinkering, and here it is. No, the forks don't go up or down, thought about it but decided the effort wasn't worth it. The plain one in the background of photo #3 is the prototype. I did discover that about 3-4 ounces of lead hidden above the rear axle was required for balance.

Propane tanks will be added as soon as my order from American Woodcrafters Supply gets here.

Thanks for looking.

That is just so cool! Great way to store the pallet coasters when not in use. Great idea and one that is sure to be copied.

That is adorable! My first thought was the kids will have this…then I thought-the kids won't have a chance, the adults will be playing with it! Thanks for sharing!

These were designed primarily as holder/display for the coasters. They would need some substantial beefing up of the design of the fork and lift frame to be considered good as toys.

Dan, we all know that what something is designed for and what it is used for are not necessarily the same thing!

Oh I know, just thought a bit of a disclaimer would help. I do have plans to work on a beefier model with working forks.

If you go here woodwoorkingformeremortals.com you will find Steve's video and a .pdf as well as a sketchup plan for the pallets. I tweaked mine a little bit to make use of the old cedar fence boards I had, then made a jig that allows me to make 4 at once.

Now that I've figured out the basic shape for the forklift, I'm working on making a set of templates for it. Ihope to have them ready in a couple of days.

What a neat idea. Really cool. The coasters are just as good idea as the lift.
