Project Information

Router table/cabinet made of birch posts and frames and birch plywood. Drawer fronts were made of white oak.
Table top is 3 layers of 8mm (5/16") MDF that was on sale.
Router insert plate is 6mm (1/4") aluminium from Axminster.

As I am a beginner in woodworking then I usually do something different with my every new project. Sometimes it can result in using not the best and most optimal solutions, but this is my way to learn.
It would have been easier to use plywood for the cabinet, but this time I tried to build with posts and web-frames. Web frames have mitred corners and also the MDF top has edge-banding with mitred corners (also first try). To get more stability and wear resistanse, I added rabbeted oak edge banding into the hole that accommodates the insert plate.

After using it for 2 months I found that the top needed a little shimming to get it perfectly level again. Otherwise I'm happy with it.

looks good.

Did you add a dust chute to the router fence? I've seen similar cabinets, like Norm's, where they had a Y hose connector that split the hose to the fence and one to the router cabinet. I believe he had angled sides to keep the dust out of the corners too.

Another cool idea I've seen is a router bit tray that fits in the drawer. If needed, you can pull the whole thing out and set it on top to see better.

I'm planning on building a router cabinet, one of these days, and I just might steal your idea and keep the bottom open instead of building a typical base cabinet.

again, nice job!
