Project Information

I attempted to carve a Don Mertz Whittle Folk from an article from a few years back. The first two pic are my second attempt at Don's 3" tall figure. The third pic is the first attempt that turned out okay for me but I still had more work to do on the carving. These little figures start out as a square stock of 1.5" x 1.5" by 3.0".

Don Mertz puts a lot of detail into such a small carving surface and is just amazing what the does with just a knife. Here is a link to his santa carvings that are 2" tall and show the progression of carving. I had a chance a few weeks ago to see this carving in person at a shop in Branson, MO.

Wow, these a amazingly well done Mike. It can't be too easy to get such fine details into such a small figure.
