Project Information

Funny Story,

Here I am Sat arvo enjoying the fine weather for a change and lo and behold the phone rings.

A little voice on the other end asks "Can you make a toilet"?

After about three guesses I work out its our family friends daughter on the phone.

What do you want a toilet for I enquire?

Its for a school project related to a Japanese exchange student was the reply

No I cannot I replied their toilets are different to ours.

That's why I want it, come on Uncle Robert you can do it! she begged

So with such a buttering up how could I refuse, so I ask do you have any drawings of the size?

The base is the same size as a pack of cards was the reply.

So I set to work, my scrap pile was looking good for materials.

The bowl (Pine)
The bowl was made using three different sizes of forstner bits then a hit on the linisher for a profile.

The cistern (Pine)
The cistern was made on with a rough cut on the table saw for the lid surround and then onto the linisher for shaping.

Buttons and water pipe (bamboo Skewer)

Then using some skewers I raided from my wife's kitchen, on went the dual flush system buttons and water pipe.

The flush pipe (Plastic)
A small plastic handle I had made the supreme sacrifice to be cut up for the flush pipe.

The base (Tassie Oak)
The base (the size of a playing card) cut with the table saw.

The lid (White Perspex)
Found a piece of white Perspex offcut for the hinge bracket and lid drilled a 2mm hole for a pivot pin into the bracket and out the other side straight into my finger holding everything!' Used a couple of small nails as pins.

Found a couple of screws which nearly needed tweezers to pick up! to attach the back bracket.

Good thing I have an illuminated Maggy Lamp!!

Task complete!.... well I haven't tested it so it may get deleted as incomplete!!

Keep the dunny roll throwing to a bare minimum please !!

Enjoy!!

OK the final pictures have been added, even added some bowl content for effect and the reception was very well received lots of laughing and frovolity.

Ahh the things we come up with when a child says "I know you can make it" Nice way to rise to the challenge.

Ok, that is really creative. So, are you going to paint the rest of it white.
I was going to suggest some ideas to make it look more authentic but since it is for children, I'll leave it alone.
I bet this will be the project that they talk, and laugh, about the most.

Wow everybody thats an amazing response for such a small item!

I appreciate all the works of support from everybody.

I have to deliver it this morning so as I have a couple of spare project photo spots I had better take one of the "Official" handing over then re-post them for you all to have an update on its journey !!

Very nice and agreed that it is hard to say no to the request of a little child. I twill be appreciated. I am afraid to ask what is floating inside when you lift the lid.

Ok, guess I'll have to post a recent project of mine…...we broke the tank lid on our toilet and found it impossible to find a replacement that fit. So I made one out of very well dried treated lumber with many many coats of sealer, then white, then clear coat. My family insists you cannot tell it apart from the porcelain lid.
