Project Information

Stairs off deck to beach. Treads and risers are 1×4 or Tigerwood ripped to 2 1/2" with radius edges added, oiled with Penofin exterior finish. Posts and balusters are clear seater with Cabot weathering stain, Top rails and post caps are Sapele mahogany.
Rails joined by mortise and tenon (scrap mahogany) as shown in last picture. Would not do that again!
Framing was pressure-treated, Only stainless fasteners used, all screw holes clogged only fasteners visible are on the outside 4×4 posts.
Spacing of boards allowed for sand to all thru, but added a foot shower at stair entry also.

You know, the pictures probably don't do your work justice. I should probably come see them in person. Maybe sometime in February? It would probably be too cold for you, but warm for us up here at the North Pole. Nice work.

Since they are in Delaware, stairs probably will be covered with snow in Feb :) They would like to meet too, but have trouble traveling on their own (hopefully).

Well done on the stairs. Do you have a close up picture of the wood before oiling?

Awesome work on those wonderful set of stairs. Like the wood choices and the joinery. I'm sure they will last long to be enjoyed. Excellent work!

Arlin - here is the Tigerwood pre-oiling pre sanding, as shipped to me. The striped figure in these 1×4s is about standard.

Nice job on the stairs. Really like how you did the landing, much more interesting than just running the boards straight.
