Belt Sander - Edge Sanding Platform

I always try to get the most out of my power tools, and my belt sander is no exception.

So I build a platform around my sander end a fence to allow me to do edge sanding and also to be able to use it as a stationary horizontal sander.

The design is very basic, two bases hinge down to fold at 90°, a fence to allow long pieces to pass straight, and a hold down system to clamp the belt sander on the opposite base.

Hooked-up with my shop-vac it does exactly what I'm expecting from it to do.

This is a great simple idea. I thought about something like this and you have it all figured out for me. I have three belt sanders and one is waiting for this. Thanks for the posting.

Necessity makes us do some creative things. I like your sander solution. Anytime you can convert a tool to do something else it is a winner.

Great idea . I have a jig for my belt sander but without the fence for longer pieces, this makes me think….

This Parkside belt sander is not a heavy duty one, it does its job very good, but I haven't put it to the test to sand a whole deck or flooring for example. It did a fine job the other day on rounding the edges of 40 meters of 1.5M long oak pieces.
So far so good.

I have to have one!

I worry about leaving my Porter Cable on it's side. If heat venting a concern?
