Project Information
This is actually my first piece of real furniture, I decided to jump right in full throttle. This project took a lot of re-sawing with my table saw. I'm a little reserved about continue to do this method without a bandsaw, being the beginner that I am.
I was a little nervous about my first trip to the lumber yard. wasn't exactly sure about how to measure board feet and how to estimate the exact amount needed. I bought about 6ft of 12/4 and 11ft of 8/4 of poplar which cost me about $140 plus a little bit 1/2 birch plywood ($35 a sheet). I got very lucky with this amount because i basically have none left. Overall it worked out great and the guys where friendly and helpful.
With this project I found out very quickly that there's a lot more to woodworking than it really appears. I initially thought I could get finished on a short weekend but it ended up taking a week plus a few days for the finishes. I had know idea how much of a job the finish really is. I have a lot to learn about staining, drying time, re-sanding and staining some more. I'm gonna have to really learn some patience!
Me and my daughter browsed a big box furniture store web-site for this furniture idea and the first one she saw that she liked and I thought I could build I agreed. http://s7ondemand5.scene7.com/is/image/roomstogo/br_bed_3330566p?$ImageLarge_700x700$ I bought the hardware for the rails from a local woodworking store for about $15.
I have intentions on going immediately in to my next project (another bed for our guess room) I will be sure to post it here for you guys to see!
