For Widdle
The front and back of the box do have a rabbet down each side the thickness of the top. The sides only come up to the top of the rabbet_ on the front and back ( to give clearance for the top to swing open). Also the top's ends that meet the sides of the box are rounded over with a 1/4 inch round-over bit on the underside to allow the tops to open without interference.

thx for the comment.

Fine looking box, dgreen. Would you give me your source for the brass rods? Thanks

Neat and classy box! Like the hinged top and the pulls. The pretty grains really pop with the finish. Well done!

Dgreen, like your the design you used in this box. It is wonderfully symmetrical and neatly made. The wood choice is a knock out. I may have to make my version of of your box in your honor. The design intrigues me. Your jewelry box was very well done, but this is my favorite so far. Thanks for sharing your work with us. Keep boxing and keep posting.

The design for this box was originally published in the October 1997 issue of American Woodworker magazine. I wish woodworkers would give credit to the original designers. -Dave Freedman, Chicago
