Project Information

This is a bowl made from plywood from a flooring display sample board. The base of the bowl is just ordinary basic construction plywood, the center section is made from cutting 18 segments of the sample board, and alternating the pieces as they were cut. The 2nd picture shows what the bowl would look like, had everything been even, but picture 3 shows that it was a little off center, and the segments show graduation. The inside view in #4 came out different than I expected, #5 is a shot of the bottom, it kinda looks like a drum this way, the last picture is a shot of what the plywood looks like. The top ring of the bowl is made from 18 pieces of Chac-te-koke, sometimes called Cardinal Wood. Bowl size is 7"X 4", and is finished with several coats of thinned down BLO, and polished with Howards Feed-N-Wax wood polish and conditioner that contains Beeswax, and Orange Oil.

This is a really cool result. Do you use a lathe or a jig to round inside and out?

Spectacular piece! I really like the looks of this one. Would you consider a Tutorial or possibly a Video on how you did this?

Wolfdrool, Everything was done on the lathe, but be advised, you are going to do a lot of chisel sharpening with this product The inside of the bowl was hand sanded, the out side was sanded with a R O S while the lathe was running, and then hand sanded with different grits of sandpaper.

Agreed with all the above. Bowls like this might inspire me to take up turning. They are lovely!

You are amazing! Taking some scrap ply and some old display flooring boards and making this beautiful bowl with it. And it turns out looking like a work of art! I love looking at your work especially because your using whatever wood you can find to turn a beautiful piece! Nice work!!
