Wooden Action Figures Part 2

For the longest time, I've wanted to figure out a toy design that would be easy to put together, last a while, and still have some appeal to adults as well as kids. I finally figured it out: Wooden action figures! Okay, they're really dolls, but only if girls play with them. All of them are hand-painted. I'm planning on giving some away for gifts, and selling the more generic ones. In addition, My wife and I are pregnant, so this will give me lots of practice to make some for the little girl/boy we're having.

The figures are about 7 inches tall (Chewbacca is almost 9") The head and hands are all pinned in place (so as not to be broken off and swallowed). All paint is non-toxic, as well as the shellac used to seal them. My thought is that these can be played with in the dirt and mud, and you don't have to worry about losing the tiny plastic parts or ruining the movement components of action figures now-a-days. Just hose off the fig when the kids are done playing. Plus, the paint will slowly fade with play and time, giving the figures an antique, much-loved(aka worn) look to them.

This second batch includes Chewbacca, a Stormtrooper, a Pirate, Oscar the Grouch, and Super Grover.

I'm planning to open a "store" on Etsy, although I'm trying to build up stock for rummage sales and flea markets. I'm planning on taking orders too. I want to expand the Star Wars line, and the Marvel and DC characters. I thougth about a Universal Monsters set (Dracula, Frankestein, The Wolfman, and the Mummy).

I'm selling them for $20 each, or three for $45 (that saves you $5 a fig), plus shipping and handling. Some of the sets (like the universal monsters) would have special pricing.

PLUS, for every figure I sell, I'll be putting $2 toward materials to make a figure for Helping Hands (a missionary charity that helps third-world countries by giving toys to kids, helping to build houses and schools, helping with teaching the children, etc). When I get enough of these figs together and painted, I will send them with the HH missionaries to be distributed out among the children.

Pretty cool idea. Nicely executed.

Good Luck with the sales of them.

Like them, they will make a great collection. Creative on the execution of the design and colors. I'm sure they will sell well, bonus is that it's for a great cause as well.
