Project Information

A gift shop near Mt. Rushmore asked to carry my mugs. This is what I sent them.

1. Cherry
2. Mahogany
3. Purpleheart
4. Bloodwood
5. Walnut
6. Mesquite

Black Walnut

California Redwood

QS Spalted Sycamore

White Oak

Red Oak

Red Cedar

Blue Pine

Cypress

The mugs are 6-1/2 inches tall. Still not as good as my mug-idol Danal, but it is the best ones I have made to date.

Thanks for looking

Very nice Monte, I am about to make my first something this month, thanks for posting these. Are these a single piece of wood hollowed out or do you join each piece?

Nice work. I hope they sell well for you.

Question: Have you ever tried to drink out of an octagonal cup? If you do it on a flat side the liquid can leak at the corners and drinking on the corner is awkward. Just my take on the practicality of their use. This problem became more apparent to me when my wife got square cereal bowls and I tried to drink the remaining milk out of them.

Well done Monte. I think that they look great! You are right about Dan, his mugs seem to be the ultimate mug, with the art work and all. His are also one piece of wood.

WooHoo for you!! Being asked by the gift shop is special … Many hours are spent in marketing our wares, and to have someone ask to display them … WOW that's Huge!!!
And as far as the practicality of a wooden mug, I supose that you could actually use them as your daily eye opener vessel, but I think that they are more of a display piece … And a great one too. (IMHO)

Very nice…! I hope they will be a consistent seller. Most certainly is good since it will get your foot in the door for other products….wooden pitcher?

Congrats on the gift shop deal. I'll bet these sell well. You did make a sign saying they were made and grown in SD didn't you? I think that is a selling point.
