Project Information

Pickelhaube Box, with a claro walnut bowl, a cocobolo lid and an ebony finial.
A Pickelhaube is the spiked helmet worn by the German army in WWI. A friend thought that was what it looked like.
It is about the size of a teacup.
The bowl has a neat bark inclusion about the size of a quarter.
Finish on the walnut bowl is wipe on poly. I could not get the poly to dry on the cocobolo so the finish is just wax.
The walnut was leftover from my previous project, "Gunstock Bowl". http://lumberjocks.com/projects/79180

beautiful, the combination of woods, the interesting grain pattern and inclusion on the wood and finial all add up to a great looking turned box.

Excellent work… I really like the form of this box. Making me want to make one myself.
