Project Information

Finally! After about 6 months of weekend work here and there, I can post these pics of this a&c nightstand I made for my wife. This is my second major project and it involved some new things for me: (1) a drawer on wood frame, (2) two dovetail joints, (3) pegged thru tenon. All in all, I'm very proud of how it turned out, especially with the quartersawn white oak. I used Jeff Jewitt's instructions on staining in mission oak style and I'm pleased with the results. I also found the drawer pull at an architectural salvage place in LA that I think goes really nicely with it.

you've done a beautiful job on the night stand it looks great. The rays on the QSO really stand out, the colour is perfect and your handle find was a good one.

A really nice piece. That finish makes the wood features really pop. Well done.

I should also give a shout out to Arroyo Hardwoods in Pasadena where I got most of the really nice qswo stock. Without those pieces, the overall look would definitely not have been the same.

I'm looking for ideas to do my own A&C nightstand for the wife. Yours is great. I really like the lines. I may be stealing a few parts of your design for my own.

What is your finishing recipe? It looks really nice.
Golden brown transtint, followed by Walnut stain?

I have read so many of Jeff's formulas, but they are all just a little different.
Thanks!

@pintodeluxe: I used TransTint's dark mission brown dye, and then I used Old Masters dark walnut gel stain. And I used an oil based polyurethane to finish it. I would have to say though that the qswo really made the look come together.
