I am an amature sawdust maker. I don't make anything as nice as most of you but I am still learning.I bought all of my dads power tools after he had a stroke and was unable to use them anymore. I have always wanted to get into it but never had the space time or money until then and went to visit them and bought them from him so the siblings couldnt say i stole them from him(lol). sense then i have added several other tools to help remodeling projects and other projects. I don't get alot of time right now due to having a new addition to the family last august but still try to sneak out to the shop when I can.
My shop is 12×16 and I have recently added an 6×10 addition and a 10×8 arrow building to get alot of stuff out of there so I can get in the door and do some work. I have a Hitachi10" tablesaw That I hate, A Ridgid 14" bandsaw with riser block, and old 1979 era dremel scroll saw that still works and was the first power saw I ever used (and my boys also) a hitachi scroll saw I got for christmas last year, I added a RBI Hawk scroll saw, and a 12" Hitachi miter saw a Delta 6" jointer, a Ryobi 13" lunchbox planer a Jet 12" drill press a Jet 1221vs lathe and a Ridgid belt/spindle sander and a Bosch router table

thanks for the nice comments. My dad is doing good he had the stroke almost 10 years ago and I waited 5 years to ask him if I could buy his tools to make sure he wasn't going to use them. he kept his newer scroll saw and some other stuff for around the house. so far I have just made some basic shelves for my wife. the older 2 boys and I have made some bird houses and I really like working with them out there. I am teaching them to do it safely because there is no longer wood shop in the schools here unless they decide to go to vo-tech and I want them to work with there heads not their hands but still need to know how to do it. I also made the trim for our kitchen remodel and am about to try to make a couple of baby resistant side tables and a book shelf. my next priority project is going to be to make my wife some wooden flowers for the front yard (she has a black thumb). I am a mechanic by trade so I have been teaching my self and reading woodnet and just found this site also subscribed to several magazines to help learn to do it better. have a good night Jim

Hey Jim, You have a planer and a jointer, so that is a great…I wish I had a jointer and a planer… someday. Anyway it encourages me to learn about hand planes… I reconditioned a bench plane and a block plane.
BTW - I know what you mean about trying to sneak out to the shop!

Jim,

That is how I got started too! All my first power tools were my Father's. I understand about not having time for woodworking. All in good time.

Yes, there are some amazing projects on this website. This too will come with time and practice.

Hi Jim,

Any chance that you would be able to post some pictures of the inside of your shop? I find visual tours of other shops to be one of the enjoyable aspects of this community.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the update. You have a nice space in which to work and a good collection of tools. I like the way you repurpose the cabinets into tool stands. This is a great idea that saves some valuable pieces of furniture and gives them a new purpose. Plus it adds valuable storage to your shop.

Thanks for the post. I have enjoyed touring your shop.
